The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a warning for rain in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for Sunday and Monday. The country was engulfed in a thick fog on Saturday morning, prompting the NCM to caution motorists in Abu Dhabi and Dubai about reduced visibility on the roads. Different intensities of fog are expected to affect many parts of the country until 9 am on Saturday morning. In some areas, visibility has fallen below 1000 meters.
Fog was reported in several areas in Dubai, including Al Jaddaf, Al Aweer, Expo City, and Khalifa Tower. In Abu Dhabi, fog developed in Al Falah, Al Riyad City, Bani Yas, and Al Shawamekh. Additionally, fog was reported over the Dubai-Abu Dhabi road and the Abu Dhabi Al Ain Road.
The temperature has increased as forecasted earlier this week. Early morning temperatures in coastal parts of the country, including Dubai and Sharjah, were around 16 to 20°C. The lowest temperature recorded in the country was 10.9°C at 7 am in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region. According to the daily weather forecast by NCM, temperatures are expected to go up to 27 to 30°C in most parts of the country, except in the mountains.
Moreover, a senior meteorologist from NCM explained that rain is expected between February 25 and 26. It is most likely that rainfall will occur late on Sunday evening or in the early hours of Monday, he said. While Dubai and Sharjah are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, there is a chance of heavy downpours in and around Fujairah, he confirmed.
Rain is a rare event in the UAE, which is known for its sunny weather. The public is advised to take caution and follow necessary safety protocols during the expected rainfall.
