Sharjah to Build Train Station Linked to Etihad Rail

Sharjah is set to receive a new passenger train station as part of the Etihad Rail network. The station will be constructed near Sharjah University City, providing easy access to key facilities, landmarks, and residential areas within the emirate and beyond.

The design-build agreement to connect the main network track to the Sharjah passenger station was recently signed in the presence of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Etihad Rail.

This development is expected to increase the number of passengers on the network to around 14,000 per day during weekdays. Once operational, the Etihad Rail network’s passenger transport service will connect 11 cities and regions across the country from Al Sila to Fujairah, including Al Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Fujairah, Sharjah, Al Dhaid, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.

    According to Sheikh Theyab,

“This step enhances the connection between residential communities in the Emirates and makes it easier for passengers to move among the stations in the network, especially as Sharjah is strategically located, connecting Dubai with the other northern Emirates, and hosting vital centres and landmarks.”

This development is set to significantly improve transportation links across the UAE by providing a convenient and efficient mode of travel for residents and visitors alike.
