New Ajman Traffic Law Bars Delivery Riders from Fast Lanes in Dubai

Ajman Introduces New Road Rules for Delivery Riders

Ajman has introduced new traffic rules specifically for delivery riders to improve road safety. According to the new regulations, delivery riders are no longer allowed to use the fast, left-most lanes on the roads.

On roads that have three lanes, delivery riders must only use the two lanes on the right. If the road has four lanes, riders are restricted to the two rightmost lanes. This move is aimed at reducing the chances of accidents and ensuring smoother traffic flow.

These new rules are similar to those already in place in other emirates like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In Abu Dhabi, for example, delivery riders are not allowed to use any lane other than the rightmost lane on roads where the speed limit is more than 100 kilometers per hour. This helps reduce risks on high-speed roads.

Dubai had implemented similar restrictions in 2021. There, delivery riders are not allowed to use the left lanes at all, and they are not allowed to drive faster than 100 kilometers per hour, even if the road allows higher speeds.

Authorities have also made it clear that breaking these rules can lead to serious consequences. Riders who violate the lane restrictions may face fines of up to AED 700. If a rider breaks the rules more than once, their delivery permit could be suspended, affecting their ability to work.

These rules have been introduced as part of a broader effort to make roads safer for everyone—both drivers and delivery workers. With the rising number of delivery services across the UAE, especially after the pandemic, ensuring safe practices on the roads has become more important than ever.
