Dubai has introduced a new programme called “Sitr” to help families who are struggling to pay their rent. The initiative has a budget of Dh10 million and is designed to support tenants facing serious financial difficulties due to rent defaults.
The programme was launched by the Rental Disputes Center in partnership with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charitable Establishment. It supports the UAE’s decision to mark 2026 as the Year of the Family, highlighting the country’s focus on family wellbeing and social stability.
Through this initiative, authorities aim to secure the release of 111 tenants who are currently detained, resolve 187 ongoing enforcement cases, and provide direct assistance to 232 families who meet the eligibility criteria. The support is intended to reduce stress on families and help them regain financial stability.
As rental prices continue to rise across Dubai, many families are finding it difficult to keep up with payments. The Sitr initiative seeks to ease this burden by offering fair and transparent financial assistance. Its broader goal is to protect family unity, prevent homelessness, and promote a culture of compassion and social responsibility within the community.
By addressing rent-related challenges in a structured and humane way, the initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to supporting residents during difficult times and ensuring that families can live with dignity and security.
