Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi has unveiled a new initiative that allows UAE citizens and residents to enter its duty-free zone even without holding a flight ticket. The move transforms the airport into more than just a transit hub, opening its doors as a lifestyle and leisure destination.
Under this program, visitors can apply in advance for a Visitor Entry Pass, granting them access to the airport’s airside area for up to five hours. During this time, guests can browse premium duty-free stores, enjoy a wide range of international dining options, and relax in cafés that were previously exclusive to departing passengers.
Despite the relaxed access, all standard security checks and procedures remain in place to ensure safety and smooth operations. Authorities emphasize that the initiative is designed to maintain the airport’s high standards while offering a unique experience to the public.
Officials say the goal is to highlight the airport’s world-class facilities and create a more engaging environment where people can enjoy shopping, dining, and leisure activities without the need to travel. The concept reflects a broader trend of modern airports evolving into multifunctional spaces that blend travel, retail, and entertainment into a single destination.
