The United Arab Emirates has announced an ambitious step toward the future of public administration, revealing plans to shift 50 percent of federal government operations to agentic artificial intelligence within the next two years. The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize government services and strengthen the country’s position as a global leader in advanced technology.
The new framework was unveiled under the directives of UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and announced by UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The project aims to introduce AI systems capable of performing tasks, analyzing information, supporting decision-making, and managing workflows with minimal human intervention.
According to the UAE government, agentic AI will act as a digital partner across ministries and federal entities, helping improve efficiency, reduce processing times, and enhance the delivery of public services. Authorities believe the technology can streamline operations while allowing employees to focus on higher-value responsibilities.
Implementation will take place in phases, with government entities expected to redesign procedures and integrate AI-driven systems into their daily operations. Performance assessments will also measure how effectively departments adopt the new technologies and adapt to the transformation.
A key part of the strategy involves investing in people. Federal employees will receive specialized training in artificial intelligence and related technologies to ensure the workforce can work alongside advanced digital systems.
The initiative builds on the UAE’s long-standing focus on digital government and innovation. If successfully implemented, it could make country the first in the world to operate a significant portion of its government through agentic AI, setting a new benchmark for public-sector transformation.
