The UAE experienced an unexpected shift in weather as hail and heavy rainfall swept across Masafi and several parts of the Eastern Region, bringing temporary relief from the intense summer heat.
While most of the country continued to record high temperatures and clear skies, mountainous areas witnessed the formation of convective clouds that produced heavy showers accompanied by hail.
The sudden weather change highlighted the contrast between the UAE’s coastal and mountainous climates during the summer season.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) had earlier forecast the possibility of cloud development over eastern and southern parts of the country, warning that these conditions could lead to rainfall in some areas.
The weather event aligned with those forecasts, as cloud activity intensified over higher elevations.
Authorities urged residents and motorists to stay updated through official weather advisories, exercise caution while driving on wet roads, reduce speed during periods of low visibility, and avoid valleys and flood-prone areas where water levels can rise quickly.
Although the UAE is known for its hot and dry summers, seasonal convective cloud formations over mountainous regions can occasionally trigger sudden rainfall and hail.
These weather events are a reminder of the country’s diverse climate patterns and the importance of remaining prepared for rapidly changing conditions, even during the peak of summer.
