Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has credited public cooperation with nighttime load management for helping reduce electricity costs for consumers in August 2026.

According to Leghari, these measures contributed to a reduction in the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for August, bringing it down from Rs. 2.0851 to Rs. 1.73 per unit.

He said the move helped prevent an estimated additional financial burden of Rs. 10.6 billion on electricity consumers while also supporting foreign exchange savings.

The minister said domestic energy sources accounted for around 72% of Pakistan’s electricity generation during August.

This helped reduce reliance on comparatively expensive imported coal and RLNG, particularly as international RLNG prices remained elevated.

Leghari also highlighted coordination between the Power Division and Petroleum Division, saying additional domestic gas was arranged to support electricity generation.

He said the approach helped reduce pressure on electricity costs and avoid further load shedding.

The minister thanked consumers for their cooperation and emphasized that greater reliance on domestic energy resources and effective energy management could help control costs for electricity users.
