Sharjah Grants Government Employees Up to 8 Days of Mourning Leave

Sharjah has revised its bereavement leave policy for government employees and university staff, providing eligible employees with up to eight days of mourning leave following the death of a close family member.

Under the updated policy, employees will be entitled to five days of bereavement leave when the death occurs within the UAE. If the death takes place outside the country, employees will receive up to eight days of leave, providing additional time for international travel, funeral arrangements and family responsibilities.

The policy applies to the death of several close relatives, including parents, grandparents, siblings, spouses, children, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

The updated provision is intended to give employees sufficient time to be with their families and manage necessary arrangements during a difficult period. It also reflects Sharjah’s focus on supporting employees while allowing them to maintain close family ties and attend to important personal and family responsibilities.
