2-Day Holiday Declared For Public, Private Sectors in Oman’s Region Due to Cyclone Tej

Oman is taking precautionary measures as Cyclone Tej approaches. Due to the severe weather conditions, authorities have announced a two-day holiday for both public and private sector employees in the Dhofar Governorate and the Wilayat of Al Jazir in the Al Wusta Governorate. The cyclone is expected to impact these regions on October 23-24.

As Cyclone Tej intensifies into a Category 3 cyclone, residents are being evacuated from vulnerable areas in anticipation of heavy rain, strong winds, and potential flooding. The Civil Aviation Authority has issued a strong advisory urging people to exercise caution and avoid low-lying areas for safety.

Oman’s Salalah port will be closed starting from Sunday evening due to the cyclone, and the Ministry of Health has activated a 24-hour call center to prepare for the tropical situation.

The UAE Embassy in Muscat has also advised its citizens in Oman to be cautious in the face of the unstable weather conditions caused by Cyclone Tej. The cyclone is expected to cross the coasts between Al Ghaidah in Yemen and Salalah in Oman as a “very severe cyclonic storm” around noon on October 24, according to the National Meteorological Department.

This declaration of a holiday and evacuation efforts are aimed at ensuring the safety of the public as Cyclone Tej approaches the region.
