Abu Dhabi has introduced its first-ever fully air-conditioned outdoor walkway, offering pedestrians a cool and comfortable environment even in the city’s extreme heat. This project is a significant step toward improving public spaces and making outdoor areas more accessible year-round.
The walkway is located in the Al Nahyan area near the Al Mamoura building and is designed to maintain a steady temperature of 24°C throughout the year. This means that even during the hottest summer months, people can walk, shop, and relax without worrying about the intense heat.
Developed by the Department of Municipalities and Transport, the walkway is not just a cooling solution but also a vibrant social space. It features retail outlets, cafés, and seating areas, making it an ideal place for people to gather, dine, and enjoy their time outdoors.
One of the most innovative aspects of this walkway is its unique design, which allows natural sunlight to pass through while still keeping the cool air inside.
