Mariam Almheiri, the Head of the International Affairs Office at the Presidential Court, recently met with Bill Gates, Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, to discuss the progress of an agricultural innovation project announced during COP28 UAE.
Last year, the UAE and the Gates Foundation jointly invested $200 million to advance agricultural innovation. This initiative aims to use cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, to tackle both immediate and long-term challenges in global food systems caused by climate change.
The funding has already started supporting organizations like CGIAR, a leading global research partnership. CGIAR focuses on developing innovative agricultural solutions to improve the lives of millions of smallholder farmers in low- and middle-income countries. These efforts include enhancing crop resilience, improving food security, and promoting sustainable farming practices.
The project underscores the commitment of both the UAE and the Gates Foundation to create a sustainable future by addressing critical issues in agriculture and food production, especially for vulnerable farming communities worldwide.
