Temperatures across the UAE have dropped sharply, with some western areas recording temperatures as low as 1.6°C, according to the National Centre of Meteorology. This sudden cold spell is being caused by fresh north-westerly winds moving inland, bringing much cooler air with them.
Coastal and mountainous areas are feeling the cold more strongly, especially places at higher elevations such as Jebel Hafeet, Jebel Jais, and Raknah. Because of their height and surrounding landscape, these regions tend to cool faster, making the cold more noticeable. In Raknah, light frost was recently seen, which is rare for the country.
While daytime temperatures have not changed much, the strong winds are making it feel colder than usual, especially during the early morning and evening hours. The wind chill effect is increasing discomfort for people outdoors.
Weather experts say temperatures may rise slightly in the middle of the week, bringing some relief. However, another small drop in temperatures is expected later on. This next change may come with strong winds, light rain, and possible fog, particularly in western parts of the country. Residents are advised to stay updated with weather reports and take precautions during early morning travel and outdoor activities.
