DEWA Plants 4,500 Mangrove Trees in Jebel Ali Marine Sanctuary Dubai

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) recently organized a campaign to plant 4,500 mangrove seedlings in partnership with the Emirates Marine Environmental Group. This initiative, announced on Saturday, is part of DEWA’s ongoing efforts to support biodiversity and protect both land and marine environments. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about environmental conservation and promoting sustainability through various initiatives.

This planting campaign is aligned with the UAE’s national goal to plant more mangroves by 2030, ensuring the growth and sustainability of mangrove forests, which play a vital role in preserving the ecosystem. DEWA has been actively contributing to this cause, having planted over 5,500 mangrove trees in 2023 alone at the Jebel Ali Marine Sanctuary. The campaign also involved more than 1,000 participants, including employees, their families, and volunteers from DEWA’s subsidiaries and academy.

In addition to planting mangroves, the participants dedicated 2,080 volunteer hours to beach cleanup activities. They removed 3,100 kilograms of waste and cleared 8 tons of algae and seaweed, which were later used for research purposes related to marine ecosystems. These efforts not only helped preserve the marine environment but also contributed to valuable scientific research.
