Dubai has launched new high-tech traffic cameras that use artificial intelligence (AI) to catch 17 different types of driving offences. These offences include not wearing a seat belt and using cars with illegally modified loud engines. The advanced cameras can even see through tinted windows using special infrared technology, allowing them to capture clear photos and videos both during the day and at night.
Brigadier Mohammed Ali Karam from Dubai Police explained that the new system is smart enough to tell the difference between regular clothing and a seat belt, even in low-light conditions. The cameras can also detect if a driver is using a mobile phone while driving by closely monitoring hand movements. This feature aims to reduce the number of accidents caused by distracted driving.
Another important feature of the new system is its ability to measure the noise levels of car engines. If a vehicle is too loud, producing sounds above 95 decibels, the driver can be fined. The penalties for such violations are quite strict, with fines reaching up to 3,000 dirhams. In addition to the fines, drivers could also receive black points on their driving record, and their vehicles might be impounded.

To maintain fairness, Dubai Police allows drivers to challenge any fines they receive through the Dubai Police app. This helps ensure that the process is transparent and that drivers have the chance to present their side of the story.
