The Dubai Marathon is set to take place on Sunday, January 12, 2025, and will result in significant road closures and traffic disruptions from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm. Residents and commuters in the city are advised to prepare for these changes and plan their journeys in advance to avoid any inconvenience.
The marathon will begin at Madinat Jumeirah, located behind the Dubai Police Academy, and will follow a route that includes areas towards Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Jumeirah Street. Several major roads will be affected by the event, including Umm Suqeim Street, Jumeirah Street, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, and Al Naseem Street.
To facilitate the event, a section of Umm Suqeim Street between Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Road will be closed starting at midnight on the day of the marathon. These closures will remain in place until the event concludes. Traffic will be managed throughout the event, with designated crossing areas available for vehicles along Jumeirah Street and King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street.
As the marathon progresses, and after elite runners have passed, authorities will gradually reopen one lane along the affected roads to ease traffic flow. However, motorists should still expect delays and are encouraged to avoid these areas if possible.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) urges all residents to carefully plan their travel in advance to minimize disruptions and ensure a smoother commute during the event. Taking alternative routes or public transportation may be helpful options to avoid affected areas.
