Dubai Opens First Phase of Major Hessa Street Revamp

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has opened the first phase of a major upgrade on Hessa Street, a project designed to reduce traffic congestion and make daily travel easier for motorists.

In this phase, a 4.5-kilometre section of Hessa Street, stretching from Al Khail Road to Sheikh Zayed Road, has been widened. The road in one direction has been expanded from two lanes to four lanes, allowing more vehicles to pass through smoothly and helping to cut down long travel times during busy hours.

The upgrade is part of the larger Hessa Street Development Project, which has a total cost of Dh690 million. According to officials, the project is now around 90 percent complete, with full completion expected by the second quarter of 2026.

Once the entire project is finished, Hessa Street will be able to carry up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in each direction. This is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in one of Dubai’s busiest areas and reduce delays for commuters.

In addition to wider roads, the project also includes several other improvements. Dedicated cycling tracks are being added to encourage safe and eco-friendly transport. New pedestrian bridges will make it safer and easier for people to cross the road, while upgraded intersections will help traffic move more efficiently.

The RTA said the development reflects Dubai’s focus on modern infrastructure, smarter mobility solutions, and better road safety. The project is expected to improve the overall travel experience for residents and visitors while supporting the city’s long-term growth plans.
