Dubai Police have completed full preparations to revive the traditional Ramadan cannon, a cherished custom that has been observed in the emirate for more than 60 years. The firing of the cannon remains one of the most symbolic and eagerly awaited moments of the holy month, reflecting the deep cultural and religious roots of the community.
The cannon will officially announce the sighting of the Ramadan crescent and will also be fired every evening at sunset to signal the time for iftar across the city. The main cannon has been stationed in Nazwa, while six fixed cannons have been placed in key residential and tourist areas to ensure residents and visitors can witness the tradition. In addition, 17 mobile cannon locations will rotate across different neighborhoods throughout Ramadan, allowing wider community participation.
Coordinated with the country’s official moon-sighting authorities, the initiative highlights efforts to preserve Emirati heritage while maintaining modern safety and organizational standards. Through this blend of tradition and careful planning, the Ramadan cannon continues to bring families together, strengthen social connections, and enhance the spiritual atmosphere across the emirate during the holy month.
