From January 9, 2026, all private schools and early childhood centres in Dubai will finish classes at 11:30am on Fridays. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) announced the change to align school timings with the national Friday prayer time, which begins at 12:45pm.
Parents have shared mixed reactions to the new schedule. Some parents, including Shun Khin Shun Lae Tha and Ben Lebig, say the earlier dismissal is easy to manage. They feel it gives children more time to rest, study, or spend time with family, and allows parents to better plan their day. A few also believe it could reduce stress for students after a full week of classes.
However, other parents have raised concerns. Ami Rasheed and Natalia Miranda pointed out possible problems such as increased traffic congestion, limited time between school pickup and prayer, and difficulties for working parents who rely on regular school hours. They worry that arranging childcare or adjusting work schedules on Fridays may become more challenging.
Overall, the change shows how school timings can affect daily routines beyond the classroom. It impacts commuting patterns, family schedules, childcare arrangements, and work-life balance, making it an important adjustment for many families in Dubai.
