Dubai to Close Major Roads, Including Sheikh Zayed Road, on New Year’s Eve

Dubai is gearing up for New Year’s Eve celebrations, with road closures set to begin at 4 pm on December 31. Abdul Rehman Obaid Juma Al Falasi, a senior official from the Dubai Police’s traffic department, has advised residents and visitors to plan their trips early and opt for public transport. The closure of Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai’s main highway, is scheduled for 9 pm.

Preparations for the festivities are well underway across the Emirate, with 32 locations, including Hatta, Burj Khalifa, and Festival City, marked on the event committee’s security and action plan. The Event Preparation Committee, active for the past three months, has been holding meetings with key partners such as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Civil Defence, and the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance.

A total of 30 supporting tents have been strategically placed in these areas to provide resources and assistance, ranging from food supplies and water to toilets and a lost-and-found service.

With a fleet of 1,300 vehicles covering all 32 celebration venues in Dubai, and more than 10,000 police officers and volunteers stationed across the Emirate to support the civil defence, RTA, and ambulances on New Year’s Eve, safety is a top priority.

Al Falasi emphasized the importance of arriving early and using public transport rather than personal cars. The RTA will be deploying buses to transport people freely around the events. He advised the public to stay informed by checking Dubai Police’s social media platforms for updates and advisories.
