Dubai is set to enjoy a rare and beautiful sky event on January 3, 2026, when two major cosmic sights will appear on the same night: the Wolf Supermoon and the Quadrantids meteor shower.
The Wolf Moon is the first full moon of the year. On this night, it will look bigger and brighter than usual because it will be very close to Earth. This is why it is called a “supermoon.” The Moon is expected to shine with a soft golden light, creating a stunning view over open areas like the Al Qudra Desert, making it a perfect setting for moon watching and night photography.
At the same time, the Quadrantids meteor shower will be active in the sky. This meteor shower is known for producing bright and fast-moving meteors, often called fireballs. These meteors come from space debris left behind by an asteroid known as 2003 EH1. When these small particles enter Earth’s atmosphere, they burn up and create glowing streaks across the sky, adding excitement to the night.
To help people enjoy this rare combination, the Dubai Astronomy Group is organizing a special stargazing event. Visitors will be able to use powerful telescopes to observe the Moon in detail, along with Jupiter and other distant objects in space. The event will also include educational talks, sky-mapping sessions, and guided explanations to help beginners understand what they are seeing.
The best time to watch the meteor shower will be between 11 PM and 3 AM, when meteor activity is expected to be at its highest. This event offers a great opportunity for families, astronomy lovers, and anyone curious about the night sky to experience a memorable and peaceful night under the stars.
