    Free Entry Announced to 200-Year-Old Sharjah Fort at UAE National Day

    With the excitement of the UAE National Day just around the corner, there is a delightful journey into history awaiting history buffs and the simply curious. The Sharjah Fort, a historical gem dating back to 1823, is opening its doors for a grand celebration of its 200-year legacy. And here is the wonderful part, entry is free for everyone.

    The Sharjah Fort has stood tall for two centuries, embodying the resilience and heritage of the Emirati community. Crafted from soft light brown plaster and coral stones sourced from the Arabian Gulf, the fort features an architectural magic with teak wood doors, palm frond ceilings, and mangrove tree columns. Over the years, it has witnessed and triumphed over numerous challenges, marking pivotal moments in Sharjah’s history.

    In 1969, the fort faced the threat of demolition. However, due to the vision and dedication of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, it was lovingly restored and transformed into a museum. Today, it stands as a living testament to the region’s rich history and cultural heritage, offering a window into the past and its significance in our lives today.

    As part of the grand 200th-anniversary celebrations, the fort will buzz with special tours and events, giving visitors a chance to explore its history and the fascinating artifacts it holds. Among these treasures is the “Al Raggas” cannon, a powerful symbol of military might dating back to 1811. Visitors can also marvel at a royal bed belonging to Sheikha Mahra Mohammed Khalifa Al Qasimi, a Quran stand dating back to 1841, and historical coins issued by Marduf Al Qawasim in the early 1830s.

    The fort, features two levels, a spacious central courtyard, and three defensive towers, each with its unique story, provides a glimpse into the lives and times of the people who once lived within its grand walls
