Men Faces Deportation for Stealing Dh3,000 Laptop in Dubai

A Dubai court has sentenced an Asian national to one month in jail and ordered his deportation after he was found guilty of stealing a laptop worth Dh3,000 from a retail store.

According to court records, the theft took place during a busy time at the store when staff members were occupied assisting other customers. Taking advantage of the situation, the man stole the laptop and left the premises without paying.

The incident was captured on the store’s CCTV cameras. After reviewing the security footage, authorities were able to identify the suspect. He was arrested two days later. During the investigation, the accused initially admitted to committing the theft. However, he later withdrew his confession during the court hearing. Despite this, the court relied on the CCTV evidence and his earlier statement to confirm his involvement in the crime.

In addition to the jail sentence and deportation order, the court directed the accused to pay Dh2,999 as compensation for the stolen item.

The case highlights Dubai’s strict laws and firm approach toward retail theft. Authorities have reiterated that crimes of this nature are taken seriously and that offenders will be held fully accountable to maintain public safety and protect businesses.
