Outdoor Labour Banned from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM Due to Extreme Heat

The United Arab Emirates has brought back its annual midday work ban to protect outdoor workers from the intense summer heat. This rule will be in place from June 15 to September 15, during which time no outdoor work is allowed between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM. These hours are typically the hottest part of the day, and the ban is designed to help prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure the safety of workers who perform their duties under the sun.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE) announced this decision as part of its ongoing efforts to promote health and safety at workplaces, especially during the scorching summer months. The midday break has been implemented every year to reduce the risks of heat exhaustion, dehydration, and other serious health problems caused by working in high temperatures.

Under this rule, employers are also required to make sure that no worker is on duty for more than eight hours a day. If employees are asked to work additional hours, they must be paid overtime in accordance with the country’s labor laws. Businesses that fail to follow this directive could face fines and other penalties.

This initiative highlights the UAE government’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights and wellbeing, especially those involved in physically demanding jobs such as construction and outdoor labor.
