The United Arab Emirates has launched a major initiative to help delivery riders and outdoor workers stay safe during the hot summer months. Over 10,000 air-conditioned rest stations have been set up across the country, giving delivery riders a place to cool down and rest.
This is part of the UAE’s “Midday Break” policy, which bans outdoor work between 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. starting from June 15. The rule is designed to protect workers from extreme heat and prevent heat-related illnesses.
Delivery riders, who are often on the move and exposed to the sun for long hours, can now easily find the nearest rest station using interactive maps available through mobile apps. This feature helps them take quick breaks in safe, cool environments without wasting time.
This project is a joint effort by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). It builds on last year’s campaign when 6,000 cooling spots were introduced across the UAE.
Employers are also required to provide shaded waiting areas, drinking water, and first aid supplies to their workers. These safety measures are not optional—they are part of the law.
If anyone sees a company breaking these rules, they can report it to the authorities using a hotline number or by visiting the official website.
The UAE’s efforts show a strong commitment to worker health and safety, especially during the scorching summer season.
