Passengers on Some Emirates Flight Could Face Wi-Fi, Mobile Interruption

Emirates, the world’s largest international carrier, has issued a notice to passengers regarding potential disruptions in Wi-Fi and mobile connectivity on certain flights, including some A380 routes. These interruptions stem from an external satellite issue beyond the Airline’s control. While inconvenient, Emirates is actively working to resolve the matter promptly.

In a positive move for passengers, Emirates recently introduced free connectivity for all classes of travel upon signing up for Emirates Skywards. This initiative has led to a notable surge in Economy Class passengers availing complimentary onboard Wi-Fi, now an additional 30,000 passengers every week. This enhancement in access to free connectivity has been warmly received by Emirates’ passengers, with an average of 450,000 users per month, marking a 30% increase compared to the same period the previous year.

Emirates passengers also have the option to purchase Wi-Fi plans during their flight, providing flexibility and choice. The first package is priced between $2.99 and $5.99, depending on the flight’s duration, and enables passengers to use text-only services through popular messaging apps like WhatsApp, iMessage, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, Line, or Viber.

For those seeking uninterrupted internet access throughout the flight, the second Wi-Fi internet package is available at a cost ranging from $9.99 to $19.99, depending on the flight’s duration.

It is important to note that due to limited bandwidth and satellite data cost considerations, media streaming and some sync services may face restrictions during the flight. Despite these limitations, Emirates remains dedicated to enhancing the in-flight experience, having invested over Dh1.1 billion ($300 million) in onboard connectivity.

Emirates is committed to providing a seamless and enriched travel experience for all passengers and appreciates their understanding regarding the potential connectivity disruptions.
