RTA Introduces Drones to Clean Metro and Tram Stations in Dubai

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), together with Keolis MHI—the company that operates Dubai Metro and Tram—has started using drone technology to clean the outer surfaces of metro stations across the city. This new and modern approach replaces the old method, which used to require up to 15 workers to clean just one station. With drones now taking over much of the work, only eight workers are needed. This means the number of workers has been cut by more than half.

The use of drones is not only making the cleaning process faster and more efficient, but it is also making it much safer. Workers no longer need to be exposed to dangerous conditions, as the drones can reach high and hard-to-access areas more easily.

Mohammed Al Ameeri, who is the Director of Maintenance at RTA’s Rail Agency, said that this trial project shows how the RTA is committed to using smart technologies to improve safety, reduce costs, and make the city’s transportation system more environmentally friendly and sustainable. This step is part of a bigger effort to use modern solutions to improve the quality of services for people living in and visiting Dubai.
