Sharjah Announces Move to Cancel 10-Year-Old Traffic Violations for a Fee

Old traffic fines in Sharjah that are more than 10 years old can now be cancelled for a fee of Dh1,000. This new decision was made during a Council meeting at the Sharjah Ruler’s office. The meeting was led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, also the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

This move gives relief to vehicle owners who have very old traffic violations. But not everyone has to pay the Dh1,000 fee. In some special situations, the fine can be cancelled without paying anything. These include:

    • If the vehicle owner has passed away, and there is proof of death.
    • If the vehicle owner left the country and has not returned for at least 10 years in a row.
    • If the vehicle was left behind (abandoned), and the owner cannot be contacted.

This new policy is expected to help people clear up old cases and bring some ease to residents who have not been able to settle these fines for many years. It’s also a step toward cleaning up old records and making things more organized for the authorities.

Sharjah officials are encouraging people to take advantage of this chance to close old traffic cases. This decision is part of a larger effort to improve the legal and administrative systems in the emirate and make life easier for residents.
