Sharjah Declares 4-Day Holiday for Public Sector Employees Over New Year

Sharjah has announced a four-day New Year break for public sector workers, with January 1, 2026 officially marked as a public holiday.
Because New Year’s Day falls on a Thursday, and Sharjah already enjoys a three-day weekend, government employees will get Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off. Offices will reopen on Monday, January 5.

The holiday applies to all government employees, except those who work in shifts and need to stay on duty.
Earlier, the UAE government also confirmed that January 1 will be a paid holiday for federal workers, while January 2 will be a remote-work day, giving employees more time to spend with their families.

Across the country, preparations for New Year celebrations are in full swing. Cities and tourist spots are planning special events, and Ras Al Khaimah is gearing up for a grand display that could include record-breaking fireworks. The New Year weekend is expected to bring a festive atmosphere, with residents and visitors gathering to celebrate the start of 2026.
