The UAE has introduced a new Ministry of Family to strengthen family bonds and promote social stability. Sanaa Suhail has been appointed as the head of this important ministry. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, highlighted the significance of families, calling them a “national priority” and the “cornerstone of progress.”
The Ministry of Family has been tasked with several key responsibilities. These include supporting stable family relationships, ensuring children are raised with proper values, increasing fertility rates, and addressing the risks of family breakdowns. It will also assist couples in preparing for marriage, improve parenting skills, and work to protect the rights of children. Additionally, the ministry will focus on supporting vulnerable groups, managing social programs, and providing training for professionals in the social sector.
In another significant move, the UAE has renamed the Ministry of Community Development to the Ministry of Community Empowerment. Shamma Al Mazrouei will lead this revamped ministry. Its focus will be on encouraging greater social participation, managing social welfare programs, and overseeing organizations that work for public benefit. The ministry will also promote volunteerism, regulate non-Muslim houses of worship, and ensure low-income families can live with dignity.
These changes reflect the UAE’s commitment to building a stronger, more cohesive society while empowering communities and families to thrive.
