In the first eight months of 2024, the UAE’s 10 airports welcomed 97.9 million passengers, showing a 12.6% increase compared to last year. This growth highlights the importance of aviation in the country’s economy. During this period, the UAE airlines operated 4,807 weekly flights to destinations across the globe.
The UAE is home to some of the world’s busiest airports, including Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International, which is set to become the largest airport globally. The country’s six national carriers—Etihad, Emirates, flydubai, Air Arabia, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi—are known for their high standards of luxury, quality, safety, and security.
Aviation is a key part of the UAE’s economy, contributing 13.3% to the country’s GDP, a massive growth from less than 1% in 1971. Minister of Economy Abdullah bin Touq has emphasized the critical role of aviation in boosting the national economy, improving the UAE’s competitiveness in the region, and connecting international markets. The continued growth of the aviation sector strengthens the UAE’s position as a vital link between global markets.
