The UAE has called on the international community to do more to help bring lasting peace, security, and stability to Yemen.
Addressing a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, UAE Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab said that progress in Yemen has come at a heavy price. He noted that Emirati soldiers lost their lives during the conflict and that the UAE also faced security threats at home as a result of its involvement.
The ambassador highlighted the UAE’s role since 2015, saying the country worked to support stability in Yemen, combat terrorism, and assist local institutions. He added that the UAE has provided more than $8 billion in humanitarian and development assistance to help the Yemeni people cope with the impact of years of conflict.
Although the UAE has ended its military operations in Yemen, Abushahab stressed that the country remains committed to standing with the Yemeni people. He reaffirmed the UAE’s support for efforts aimed at achieving long-term peace and helping Yemen move toward a more stable and secure future.
