The United Arab Emirates has officially declared that Wednesday, May 28, will be the first day of the Islamic month of Dhu Al Hijjah. This announcement was made after the crescent moon was sighted on the evening of Tuesday, May 27. As a result, the important Islamic festival of Eid Al Adha will be celebrated on Friday, June 6, and Arafat Day will be observed on Thursday, June 5.
This announcement follows the same decision made by Saudi Arabia, which also confirmed the moon sighting and the dates for the beginning of Dhu Al Hijjah. Eid Al Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most sacred holidays in the Islamic calendar. It honors the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. The festival also marks the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, a spiritual journey that millions of Muslims undertake each year. During this time, Muslims around the world come together in prayer, reflection, and acts of charity.
