On Thursday, a remarkable effort to protect marine life took place at Jebel Ali Beach in Dubai. Twenty Arabian carpet sharks and three honeycomb stingrays were released into the Arabian Sea as part of an ongoing marine conservation project. This initiative was organized by the Atlantis Atlas Project in collaboration with Dubai Municipality.
Both the Arabian carpet shark and the honeycomb stingray are considered near threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). To help protect these endangered species, they were cared for in captivity, where their health was closely monitored, and they were encouraged to breed. This careful process allowed their populations to grow in a safe environment.
Releasing these animals back into the sea marks an important milestone in supporting local marine ecosystems. It also highlights the efforts being made in Dubai to preserve ocean life and ensure the survival of species that are at risk of disappearing.
This initiative not only helps protect endangered marine animals but also raises awareness about the importance of ocean conservation and the need to protect vulnerable species for future generations.
