The Orionid meteor shower will brighten the UAE skies before dawn on Tuesday, giving skywatchers a beautiful chance to enjoy one of nature’s most stunning shows.
Astronomer Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, said the conditions this year are perfect for viewing because the moon will set early, leaving the sky dark and clear. This makes it easier to spot even the faintest meteors without the glow of moonlight.
The Orionids come from tiny pieces of debris left behind by Halley’s Comet, which passes by Earth every 76 years. When these small particles enter our atmosphere, they burn up and create bright streaks of light across the sky.
In areas far from city lights, viewers may be able to see around 20 meteors every hour. Some of them may even leave glowing trails that last a few seconds — a truly magical sight for anyone watching.
People across the UAE are encouraged to find an open, dark spot away from light pollution and look up during the pre-dawn hours for the best chance to witness this celestial display.
