UAE Seeds Safeguarded in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault
In a historic step, the United Arab Emirates has successfully stored its seeds in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, located in the Arctic. This initiative ensures the long-term preservation of plant species that can survive in extreme environments.
A total of 315 seed samples from 110 different plant species have been deposited, including the resilient Ghaf tree, which is known for its ability to thrive in harsh desert conditions. By securing these seeds in the vault, scientists and researchers aim to protect biodiversity and support future agricultural efforts in regions facing extreme climates.
