Uber has introduced its first autonomous rides outside the United States in Abu Dhabi, marking a big step in its journey toward self-driving technology. This exciting development is in partnership with WeRide Inc., a leader in autonomous vehicle technology.
Riders in Abu Dhabi can now book self-driving cars through the Uber app at regular UberX or Uber Comfort prices. These rides are available in key areas such as Saadiyat Island, Yas Island, and on routes to Zayed International Airport.
To ensure safety during the initial phase, each ride will have a safety operator in the car. This setup will eventually transition to fully driverless rides, with Uber aiming to roll out this service by 2025.
This launch is a significant milestone in Uber’s efforts to make autonomous vehicles a part of everyday transportation. The company plans to expand its autonomous services further, bringing innovative and smart mobility solutions to more locations in the future.
