In a swift and high-tech operation, Dubai Police announced on Monday that they successfully foiled the theft of an exceptionally rare pink diamond worth $25 million, arresting the culprits within just eight hours of the crime.
According to an official statement released by the Dubai Police General Command and shared by the United Arab Emirates’ state news agency WAM, the thieves had orchestrated a sophisticated plan to lure a diamond trader into a trap. The trader, who had recently brought the gem from Europe, was invited to a villa under the pretense of meeting a wealthy client for a potential sale.
However, once the trader arrived at the location, the jewel was stolen in what authorities described as a carefully staged deception.
Police confirmed that three men, belonging to an unspecified Asian country, were identified and apprehended shortly after the theft. “Thanks to the efforts of specialised and field teams, and by using the latest artificial intelligence technologies, the suspects were caught within eight hours,” the police statement read.
The Dubai Media Office released video footage showing the blurred faces of the arrested men, along with CCTV clips capturing the movements of the gang during the crime.
Dubai, a global hub for diamond trading, has long prided itself on its tight security measures and stability. This case, authorities noted, highlights both the sophistication of criminal attempts targeting the emirate’s thriving luxury trade sector and the speed with which law enforcement can respond.
Police officials emphasized that the foiling of the heist reflects the efficiency and advanced capabilities of Dubai’s security apparatus, particularly in protecting high-value assets and reinforcing the city’s reputation as one of the safest business destinations in the world.
