Dubai is planning to launch its air taxi service by 2026, making it the first city in the world with a fully developed network of special landing and take-off spots for electric air taxis. These taxis, known as eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) aircraft, will provide a faster and more convenient way to travel around the city.
The service will be operated by Joby Aviation in partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). It will initially connect four major locations: Dubai International Airport (DXB), Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. This means that travelers will be able to reach their destinations much faster than before. For example, a trip from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah, which usually takes around 45 minutes by car, will be reduced to just 10 minutes using the air taxi.
This project is part of Dubai’s long-term vision to improve urban mobility and make transportation more efficient. By 2030, the city aims to have 25% of its transport system operating autonomously. The introduction of air taxis will also support sustainability efforts by reducing carbon emissions, as these aircraft run on electric power instead of traditional fuel.
With this new service, Dubai is taking a big step toward the future of smart and eco-friendly transportation, making travel quicker, easier, and more environmentally friendly.
