Dubai Duty Free has become one of the world’s largest duty-free operations, spanning over 40,000 square meters at Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport. Executive Vice Chairman and CEO Colm McLoughlin shared some of the company’s future plans and highlighted its contribution to enhancing Dubai’s status as a top global tourist destination during his appearance at the Arabian Travel Market 2023.
McLoughlin, who has been leading Dubai Duty Free for four decades, emphasized the importance of making the passenger’s entire journey enjoyable, with Dubai Duty Free being a key part of it. The company has also raised the profile of Dubai through the promotion of high-profile international events like the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, generating more than US$1 billion worth of TV exposure for the city.
Under McLoughlin’s leadership, Dubai Duty Free has grown from a US$20 million company in 1984 to a $1.74 billion operation last year, with 2023 sales expected to exceed US$2 billion. The company will also focus on CSR initiatives and sustainability in the coming years, aligning with the theme of ATM 2023, ‘Working towards net zero’.
In recognition of his contribution to tourism and the economy, McLoughlin was presented with the prestigious Pearl Award at the session, created especially for the 30th edition of ATM. Danielle Curtis Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market, acknowledged McLoughlin’s wisdom, enlightenment, and longevity and wished him even more success in the future.
