Saudi Arabia has announced that Muslims should look for the Ramadan crescent on the evening of February 17, which is 29 Shaban.
The Supreme Court asked anyone who spots the moon, either with the naked eye or binoculars, to report it to the nearest court. However, astronomers warned that sighting the moon could be difficult because it will be close to the sun, and a possible solar eclipse may make it riskier.
Officials advised people to follow announcements from trusted religious and astronomical authorities to avoid confusion about the start of fasting.
