Nestlé has confirmed that approximately 12 tonnes of KitKat chocolate bars were stolen during transit in Europe, sparking concerns about possible supply disruptions ahead of the busy Easter season. The missing shipment reportedly contained more than 413,000 individual units and disappeared while being transported from central Italy to Poland, where it was set to be distributed across multiple markets.
According to the company, each product in the shipment is marked with unique batch codes, allowing the stolen goods to be identified and traced if they reappear in retail or secondary markets. With demand for chocolate typically surging during Easter, the loss of such a large consignment could affect product availability in certain regions if not recovered in time.
Authorities are expected to be investigating the incident, which is being described as one of the most significant chocolate thefts in recent years. The case has also raised broader concerns about supply chain security and the vulnerability of high-volume consumer goods during cross-border transportation.
