The American University of Sharjah (AUS) has officially confirmed that online classes will remain in place for the rest of the academic semester, providing much-needed clarity for students after a period of ongoing short-term announcements and uncertainty. The decision aims to create a more stable academic environment, allowing students to plan ahead with confidence.
In a message addressed to the student body, Chancellor Dr. Tod Laursen explained that the move was taken with a strong focus on student wellbeing, uninterrupted academic progress, and overall institutional stability. He emphasized that maintaining consistency in the learning format would help reduce stress and ensure that students can stay on track with their studies.
The announcement follows broader measures taken by authorities in the United Arab Emirates, where distance learning for schools and universities has already been extended until April 17, 2026. However, certain exceptions remain in place for essential in-person activities, particularly for practical, laboratory, and clinical programs that require physical attendance.
AUS further noted that implementing a long-term online learning strategy will not only support academic continuity but also help students better manage their schedules, personal commitments, and future plans. By removing the uncertainty of frequent changes, the university aims to create a more predictable and supportive learning experience for its community.
