Etihad Rail is set to transform transportation across the United Arab Emirates as its long-awaited passenger service moves closer to its anticipated launch in 2026. The project represents a major milestone in the country’s infrastructure development, introducing a modern and efficient rail network designed to enhance mobility for both residents and visitors.
The railway will connect 11 major cities and regions, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, creating a seamless travel experience across the country. By linking these key urban and economic hubs, the network will provide a reliable alternative to road transport, helping to reduce traffic congestion while improving accessibility and regional integration. It is also expected to support economic growth by strengthening connections between different emirates.
Journey times are set to be significantly reduced, making intercity travel faster and more convenient. The trip between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is expected to take around 57 minutes, while future high-speed rail developments could cut this time to just 30 minutes. Other routes, such as Abu Dhabi to Fujairah and Abu Dhabi to Ruwais, will also offer efficient and time-saving travel options. Plans for future international connectivity, including links to Oman, further highlight the project’s long-term vision.
The trains will feature modern amenities aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and overall travel experience. These include spacious seating, onboard entertainment systems, charging stations, and multiple travel classes to accommodate different preferences. With the ability to carry hundreds of passengers per journey and serve millions annually, the network is expected to become a key pillar of the UAE’s transportation system.
Overall, the launch of the passenger rail service marks a significant step forward in the country’s push toward advanced, sustainable, and interconnected transport solutions, reflecting a strong commitment to innovation and future-ready infrastructure.
