Government employees in Abu Dhabi will now have access to 15 different types of leave under a newly introduced human resources framework launched by the Abu Dhabi Government Enablement Department. The updated system is designed to create a more organised and transparent workplace structure, while supporting employee wellbeing and ensuring the smooth delivery of government services.
The framework clearly outlines the rules for each type of leave, including eligibility requirements, approved durations, carry-forward limits, and administrative procedures. Officials say the changes aim to provide greater clarity for employees and departments alike, helping to reduce confusion and improve efficiency across government entities.
Under the new policy, annual leave will range between 22 and 30 working days depending on an employee’s job grade and role. The framework also includes clear timelines for leave approvals, making the process faster and more predictable for staff members planning time off.
In certain situations, employees may also be eligible for financial compensation for unused leave days, subject to specific conditions. The policy further explains how leave can be accumulated over time, while also setting limits to ensure fairness and proper workforce planning.
The updated leave system is part of Abu Dhabi’s wider efforts to modernise public sector employment practices, improve staff satisfaction, and create a more supportive and productive work environment for government employees.
