Saudi Arabia’s ambitious aviation expansion took another major step forward as Riyadh Air officially received its first two custom-built Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The state-backed airline welcomed the new jets in Riyadh during a special ceremony, signaling its readiness to move closer to launching full commercial operations and establishing itself as a key player in global aviation.
The arrival of the Dreamliners is a significant milestone for Riyadh Air, which was created as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy to diversify the economy and transform the Kingdom into a leading international travel and business hub. The airline plans to rapidly grow its fleet and route network, connecting Riyadh with major destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas while offering modern passenger services and enhanced travel experiences.
According to the airline’s plans, flights between Riyadh and London are expected to commence on July 1, making the route the first to be served by the newly delivered Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The launch of international operations is expected to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s global connectivity, support tourism growth, and contribute to the Kingdom’s long-term goal of becoming one of the world’s leading aviation centers.
