Sharjah authorities have announced free public parking across the emirate on Monday, 15 June 2026, to mark the Hijri New Year holiday, offering relief and convenience to residents and visitors during the occasion. The decision means motorists will not have to pay parking fees in most public areas as people gather to celebrate the beginning of the Islamic New Year.
Officials clarified, however, that the exemption will not cover smart parking zones and certain paid parking areas that remain operational throughout the week and on official holidays. These designated spaces are clearly identified by blue signboards, and regular charges will continue to apply there.
The move is part of Sharjah’s efforts to improve mobility, reduce traffic-related stress, and support smoother movement across the city during the holiday period. The Hijri New Year marks the start of a new Islamic calendar year and is widely observed across the UAE with public holidays and special arrangements for citizens and expatriates alike.
