The Ruler of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi has issued directives for the revival and restoration of the historic Khorfakkan Old Souk, marking a major step toward strengthening cultural heritage and boosting tourism in the eastern region of the emirate.
The project focuses on carefully restoring the old marketplace while preserving its traditional architectural style and historical identity. Once completed, the souk is expected to serve as a vibrant cultural and commercial hub that reflects the heritage of Khorfakkan, which has long been known as an important coastal trading center.
Authorities plan to integrate modern facilities while maintaining the authentic atmosphere of the souk, allowing visitors to experience the charm of traditional Emirati market life.
The revival is also expected to support local artisans and small businesses by providing them with a dedicated space to showcase handmade goods, crafts, and local products.
Officials highlighted that this initiative aligns with Sharjah’s broader vision of preserving historical landmarks and promoting cultural tourism. By restoring the old souk, the emirate aims to attract more visitors, create economic opportunities, and reinforce Khorfakkan’s identity as a key destination for heritage and tourism on the UAE’s east coast.
