$2.13 Billion Riyadh Transport Project Approved to Boost City Growth

Saudi Arabia has approved a major new road infrastructure project in Riyadh, marking another significant step in the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to modernize its transportation network and accommodate the capital’s rapid expansion.

The project will develop the eastern section of Thumama Road, stretching approximately 8 kilometers. It includes the construction of three bridges and three tunnels designed to improve traffic flow and enhance connectivity between key areas of the city.

Once completed, the new corridor is expected to handle up to 200,000 vehicles per day, helping ease congestion on one of Riyadh’s busiest routes.

Scheduled for completion in 2028, the project forms part of the broader Main and Ring Road Axes Development Programme, an ambitious initiative that will upgrade and expand more than 500 kilometers of road infrastructure across Riyadh.

The programme is aimed at creating a more efficient, safer, and sustainable transport network capable of supporting the city’s growing population and increasing economic activity.

The investment reflects Saudi Arabia’s long-term vision of transforming Riyadh into a world-class global city by improving mobility, reducing travel times, and strengthening infrastructure to meet future urban development needs.
