Abu Dhabi Lifts Minimum Speed Limit System of 120 Kmph on E311

Abu Dhabi has officially removed the 120 km/h minimum speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road (E311), a change aimed at improving road safety and traffic flow. Drivers using the road recently noticed that the speed limit signs had been updated, confirming the change.

The minimum speed rule was first introduced in April 2023 and applied specifically to the left-most lanes of the highway. Under that rule, drivers who went slower than 120 km/h in those lanes could be fined Dh400. The intention was to keep traffic moving quickly and smoothly in the fast lane, but many motorists expressed concerns. They felt the rule made driving more stressful and dangerous, especially for those who preferred a slightly slower pace.

Now, with the minimum speed limit removed, drivers have more flexibility to choose speeds they feel are safe, without worrying about being fined. The only remaining limit on the road is the maximum speed of 140 km/h, which continues to be enforced.

This change is expected to make driving on E311 safer and more comfortable for all types of vehicles and drivers. Authorities hope the adjustment will help reduce accidents and encourage more responsible driving behavior across the highway network.
